Golf Turf Management and Pond Health
The 2026 Turf Technology Showcase was an incredible opportunity to connect over the vital link between turf vitality and good water health. As both a primary irrigation source and a central aesthetic feature, golf course water bodies demand careful stewardship. Yet, because these lakes and lagoons are static and non-flowing, they often suffer from thermal stratification leading to low oxygen levels, bottom-layer dead zones, and the development of foul, noxious odors.
We didn’t just want to talk about the problems, though; we wanted to provide real fixes. PondHawk co-inventor Sandra Burton took a deep dive into how a solar-powered aeration system cleans up water naturally, ditching the harsh chemicals and algaecides for a much healthier, greener, and sustainable approach.
PondHawk by LINNE Industries was created specifically for pond managers and golf course superintendents as an eco-friendly, low-maintenance alternative to traditional electric aeration or chemical pond treatments. It is the first fully integrated, solar-powered subsurface pond aeration system that operates directly without the need for expensive batteries, specialized technical installation, meter or kWh costs, and a simple, durable design. PondHawk was a featured product in the GCSAA Conference and Trade Show’s inaugural Golf’s Sustainability Showcase in 2024. It has also been selected by the Orlando Utility Commission for the Net Zero Energy Campus, Florida’s first net-zero energy utility facility.
Patented Design:
PondHawk is a proprietary, patented subsurface aeration system, U.S. Patent No. 9,290,398. It brings a specialized pump mechanism to deliver dissolved oxygen directly to the water column without relying on battery banks or grid connections.
