Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs), particularly in stormwater basins, can adversely affect human health and aquatic ecosystems, locally and downstream. For years, the question has been whether aeration, be it surface or subsurface, alone or combined with other Best Management Practices (BMPs), restores the natural processes that improve water quality in ponds and lakes.
This presentation combines research from leading environmental scientists with a decade of field research testing, evaluating, and designing solar-powered aeration systems.
We will take a look at:
- Root Causes: The underlying causes of problems in static, non-flowing water bodies, and why they become unpleasant.
- Aeration Analysis: The benefits and drawbacks of aeration types, the methods used to quantify these differences, and their value in enhancing water quality.
- Case Studies: Real-world examples from New York and beyond detailing the science behind PondHawk aeration and the tools used to validate customer experience and improvement results.
For over a decade, PondHawk’s solar-powered aeration system has been deployed in municipal golf courses, stormwater, and HOA ponds across the US to improve water quality, reduce odors, and eliminate the conditions that foster harmful algal blooms. Join the Rockland County Water Quality Coordinating Committee (WQCC) and Sandra Burton, President of LINNE Industries and Co-Inventor of PondHawk, as she presents on restoring water quality using solar-powered subsurface aeration.
